Each month this year we are encouraging our students and their families—and anyone else who would like to join us—to learn and master something we call, “Heart Holds.” Heart Holds are specific and basic teachings that all Christians should be able to refer to at any moment. They may be items to memorize, or readings to read during the month, or concepts to understand and mentally grasp or to put into practice.  Each month will be a different type of something for you to “hold on to” to help you stay firm in your faith.

Below, you will find additional resources to accompany our Heart Holds.

10 Scriptures for 2022

In addition to our 2022 Heart Holds, we have provided 10 passages of Scripture to focus on this year. You will find the list below.

You can commit to reading the Scripture 10 times during the month, commit to reading it once per week, followed by a time of prayer, or commit to memorizing all 10 of these Scriptures if you want to! The point is to focus on each passage for an extended period of time, letting God’s Word fill your heart and mind.

As we work on Heart Holds together, may God strengthen our hearts so that we will remain steadfast in Him.

Advent Readings

Follow this calendar and immerse yourself in the Bible from November 27 through Christmas Day.

This tool has been made to help your heart soften once again to the great story of God, which began in the Old Testament and was fulfilled in the New, through Jesus the Messiah.

As we lead up to Christmas, may we again anticipate His arrival to the earth as a newborn baby, and may we also anticipate his future return, when He will make all things new. And may God bless us as we seek His Kingdom and His righteousness.

Complete 2 Family Devotionals

For October’s Heart Hold, complete two devotionals with family or friends.

What a blessing it is to devote time together regularly to pray, study the Word, and grow closer to God!

For this Heart Hold, complete two devotionals with your family or friends. You can create your own devotionals or choose from the list of ideas below.

It doesn’t have to be complicated. The point is to gather a few people together and spend time focusing on and praising God.

DEVOTIONAL IDEAS:

  • Choose a passage of Scripture. Read the passage together and talk about how you can apply it in your life this week. End with a prayer.
  • Stand or sit in a circle. Go around the circle, allowing time for each person to pray. End by praising God with a song.
  • Gather around the fire pit for an evening devotional. Sing a few of your favorite hymns, pray together, and end the night with s’mores!
  • Follow a Discovery Bible Study (DBS) format. Choose a passage of Scripture to read together and then follow the questions on a DBS bookmark. (Bookmarks are available in the lobby and on our website: alameda.church/resources/dbs)
  • For Kids Ministry families, follow the devotional plans that your kids receive on Sunday mornings at church.(For the month of October, all pre-k and elementary kids will receive the same devotionals each week.)

Each week this month, make a plan and practice it, so that whenever you have an opportunity to share the Gospel with someone, you are prepared and can explain it easily.

We have provided 3 ways to easily explain and talk about the Gospel to people of different ages. These are simply illustrations or exercises to help you explain the Gospel and why it's good news for us!
